Financial aid for non-degree students

If admitted to the University of Kansas as a non-degree seeking student, you’re not eligible to receive federal aid unless you meet one of the exceptions and you enroll at least half time (6 hours in fall/spring and 3 hours in summer.) No grant aid is available.

Scenarios where a non-degree student may be eligible for some financial aid.

You wish to enroll in coursework required for acceptance into a bachelor’s degree program. Eligibility is limited to one, consecutive 12-month period.

  • Dependent students: up to $2,625 Federal Direct Loan and opportunity to apply for Federal Direct parent PLUS loan, for which a credit check is required.
  • Independent students: up to $8,625 Federal Direct Loan.

You already received a bachelor’s degree and wish to enroll in coursework required for admission into a graduate program. Taking courses to raise your GPA for admission or to investigate interest in an academic area does not qualify. Eligibility is limited to one, consecutive 12-month period.

  • Dependent students: up to $5,500 Federal Direct Loan and opportunity to apply for Federal Direct parent PLUS loan, for which a credit check is required.
  • Independent students: up to $12,500 Federal Direct Loan.

You already received a bachelor’s degree and wish to enroll in coursework required to earn a professional certification (or re-certification) from the State of Kansas, as a teacher in an elementary or secondary school in Kansas. Optional courses not required for certification do not qualify.However, coursework needed to receive an additional teaching credential to teach in a different subject area is allowable. Coursework for educational leadership positions is not acceptable.Confirm with the School of Education that the state requires the courses for a teaching credential.

  • Dependent students: up to $5,500 Federal Direct Loan and opportunity to apply for Federal Direct parent PLUS loan, for which a credit check is required.
  • Independent students: up to $12,500 Federal Direct Loan.

You have already received a bachelor’s degree and you’re enrolled in or have been accepted for enrollment at least half-time in the Post-Baccalaureate in Health Sciences program at the Edwards campus. Eligibility is limited to one, consecutive 12-month period.

  • Dependent students: up to $5,500 Federal Direct Loan and opportunity to apply for Federal Direct parent PLUS loan, for which a credit check is required.
  • Independent students: up to $12,500 Federal Direct Loan
